4 Awesome Social Media Tips For Your Business

By Mike Templeman

In today’s day and age, there’s no doubt that social media is one of the most popular tools. We use it in our everyday lives, and it’s especially prominent in the business world. There are numerous reasons why so many companies are investing in social media nowadays. First of all, it’s a much more convenient way to reach out to customers. After all, you might not always be able to talk with them on the phone, or have a direct conversation, either. Often, having a quick discussion via Facebook or Twitter is the best way to go. Also, considering social media is easily accessible via mobile devices, that means you can reach out to your customers whenever. No longer do you always have to be in your office.

On another note, many businesses are also investing in social media, because it’s an excellent tool for building your audience. Word of mouth is powerful, especially on the Internet. If some of your social media followers take interest in your content, chances are they might tell other friends on their own Facebook or Twitter page.

However, while many businesses know about the importance of social media, the problem is that they don’t use it as effectively as they should. Besides, having all the knowledge in the world means nothing if you don’t utilize it properly. Here are some social media tips and tricks to consider for your business.

#1. Study Your Audience

Before marketing your content via social media, always make sure that you get to know your audience. Being successful doesn’t happen overnight, and with that said, you might have to make some adjustments to your marketing plan. For example, based on what you know of your audience, how can you market your product in a way that appeals to them?

As an example, let’s say most of your social media audience consisted of females, something that 76% of Facebook users consist of. You shouldn’t change the product you’re selling, but advertise it in a way that’s based on their likes and dislikes. Speaking of which, one of the best ways to study your audience, is through the use of surveys. Be sure it’s questions which pertain to that demographic. Lastly, feedback is great for studying your audience as well. When someone comments on your social media page, take it heart. Constructive criticism can be helpful, and you can then use this feedback to make improvements to your business and marketing strategies.

#2. Be Responsive

There’s nothing worse than losing audience members because you don’t respond in a timely manner. After all, if you were a customer, I’m sure you wouldn’t want to wait hours for a reply, either. After all, we’ve all been in the customer’s shoes before, where a business hasn’t been the most responsive to us. Speaking of timely, an effective way to keep your customers engaged, is by responding and connecting with them when you know they’re online, or are most likely to check their messages. For example, many people check their social media pages, first thing in the morning. One tactic, is to respond to them by sharing content in the late hours of the night. That way, they have something to look forward to in the morning, and you can engage them all throughout the day. Lastly, according to recent statistics, engagement from Facebook users is also 18% higher on Thursdays and Fridays. For the latter, it’s most likely because Friday is right before the weekend, and people have something to look forward to. Overall, use both of these days as an opportunity to market your content to its fullest potential.

#3. Familiarize Yourself With Each Social Media Outlet

The way that you would use Twitter to engage your audience, is quite different from how you’d use Facebook. With that said, be sure you know how to use each social media outlet to its fullest. For example, the former has a word limit and is more restricted for casual conversations and sharing links. The latter, however, has no word restriction. Because of these factors, Twitter would be better for sharing small content. On the other hand, Facebook is a place where you can fully share your thoughts, especially because there’s no word restriction. Overall, be sure to familiarize yourself with each social media outlet.

#4. Acknowledge Customer Feedback

Whether you’re marketing your content via Facebook or even Instagram, always take customer feedback into consideration. First of all, it’s important to remember that not all feedback is going to be “positive”, per se. No matter how “good” or “bad” your content is, there will always be those who either like or dislike it. Criticism often isn’t something we like to hear, especially when it’s directed towards us, but take it into consideration. Use it as a learning experience to make changes or improvements to your marketing strategy. For example, what if several customers mentioned that you weren’t descriptive enough in explaining how the product works? If that’s the case, use it as an opportunity to learn from your mistakes. A little constructive criticism from your customers, can go a long way.

As you can see, these are some useful social media marketing strategies for your business. However, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Businesses all over the world have employed dozens of other strategies for reaching out to their customers.
