Disney World Ending Popular Main Street Electrical Parade, Social Media Reactions

By Erica Abbott

Walt Disney World visitors will soon have to say goodbye to the Main Street Electrical Parade’s thousands of sparkling lights. The colorful parade will be returning home to Disneyland after its run ends Oct. 9.

According to the Disney blog, its run at Disneyland will only be “a limited-time encore engagement.” It was announced earlier this month that Disneyland’s Paint the Night parade would be ending Sept. 5. According to WDWMagic, the electrical parade will return to Disneyland in early 2017, however, at least for now, Paint the Night will not be appearing at Walt Disney World as many had speculated.

The Main Street Electrical Parade features “shining, shimmering, splendid,” spinning floats that honor characters from films such as “Alice In Wonderland,” “Pete’s Dragon,” “Cinderella” and more. It first debuted in 1972 at Disneyland and in 1977, premiered on Main Street, U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom. The parade is accompanied by the catchy tune “Baroque Hoedown” and is led by the light of Tinker Bell’s wand, featuring classic Disney magic.

Many people took to social media to recall great memories of the parade, while others called for it to close entirely.

I feel like #Disneyland & Walt Disney World are divorced parents with shared custody of the Main Street Electrical Parade

I can’t believe it’s official that Disneyland is actually getting Main Street Electrical Parade back.

If we get the Main Street Electrical Parade back, I’m going to pounce on all of those spinning bugs.

It’s time for Disney to stop running the Main Street Electrical Parade. Don’t send it to Disneyland. Just give it a dignified close.

Just watched the electrical parade for the last time. Ever. The next time I be at MK it will no longer be here, which absolutely breaks my heart. I still remember the first time I saw this parade over five months ago, it was actually one of the first things that made me fall in love with Disney. I have SO many amazing memories from this parade this summer…these characters were always so much fun to interact with and get noticed by. I’ll miss you & good luck in CA! ✨ /// #disney #disneyworld #happiestplaceonearth #disney2016 #disneyparks #disneyobsessed #disneygram #disneylove #disneyaccount #waltdisney #disnerd #passholder #waltdisneyworldpassholder #wdwap #annualpassholder #instadisney #disneyaccount #disneyphoto #disneyphotos #waltdisneyworld #waltdisneyworldresort #WDW #wdwresort #magickingdom #electricalparade #mainstreetelectricalparade #disneyparade
