Since fitness is related to weight loss and muscle building, it’s safe enough to use similar keywords that you would usually target in those niches like “get stronger arms,” or “workouts for the core,” and “how to keep up with exercise,” etc. These keywords might have higher competition, but they would also have higher global monthly search results.

This week I share with you yet another weight-loss related niche: fitness affiliate programs.

Fitness is related to weight loss and muscle building, but does not fall into any of these two niches. Fitness is all about your capability to perform specific physical tasks. This means you’re not just looking to lose weight; you’re looking for ways on how to maintain a good weight to remain fit.

Statista.com claims that the fitness niche amounted to around USD $400 billion dollars of the total global wellness industry in 2013. Other data show that there is an increase in the number of health clubs and health club memberships in the US. A Physical Activity Council Topline Report claims that for the fifth consecutive year, at least 60 percent of Americans regularly participate in fitness sports.

If we are to look at the statistics, there’s a big market for fitness and fitness-related products. There’s bound to be lots of competition where there’s plenty of demand. I went on to keyword research to get a much bigger picture of this niche.

Fitness Keywords

I went to AffiloTools and looked for “fitness” keywords: “how to stay fit,” “fitness routine,” “fitness workout,” and similar. The results came back with mostly low-competition keywords, but with a lot fewer global monthly searches. I would probably target some of these, but I would still look for keywords that have better monthly searches.

I checked Ubersuggest.org and used the same keyword. It brought up a lot of variations on the keyword that I could use, but they are not enough. I need to have a good mix of keywords that have good monthly search values and reasonable competition.

Fitness Affiliate Programs

There are fitness affiliate programs in the ClickBank Marketplace but most of them, if not all, are focused on building muscle and losing weight. I decided to look at other affiliate networks and found the following:

Fitbit.com

Fitbit.com - Fitness Affiliate Programs

Fitbit designs intuitive trackers that users can wear on their wrists or attach to their clothing. Their devices track calories burned, distance traveled, even the quality of the user’s sleep, to give users an idea of how they are doing in their fitness goal.

Fitbit offers affiliates 12 percent commission per sale. Their program is offered through ShareASale.

NatalieJillFitness.com

NatalieJillFitness.com - Fitness Affiliate Programs

Natalie Jill is a fitness expert who created a 7-day Jump Start program for people looking for a way to quickly get started on a fitness program. She also has recipe books and fitness DVDs. All are offered on her site.

NatalieJillFitness.com affiliates enjoy 30 percent commission for each sale. The site manages its own affiliate program so affiliates can sign up directly through the website.

ProForm

ProForm - Fitness Affiliate Programs

ProForm creates and sells fitness equipment and accessories such as ellipticals and exercise bikes. The site has a tiered commission structure starting from 8 percent that goes up to 11 percent.

Interested affiliates need to send an email to the site’s affiliate manager to apply to the program.

Bowflex

Bowflex - Fitness Affiliate Programs

Bowflex is similar to ProForm, but it offers a wider range of fitness equipment, including free weights and home gym equipment.

Affiliates can earn 7 percent commission on sales through the program with Commission Junction.

And Finally…

Amazon.com is not a fitness site, but it has plenty of fitness products that you can promote on your website, from books and clothing to fitness trackers. The commission is not that big, but it can be considerable if users buy multiple items through your Amazon affiliate link.

Get A Fit Link-Building Strategy

Driving traffic to your site is challenging yet essential. You need to get traffic to convert to sales.

There are several methods to drive traffic to your site, both paid and unpaid, so its easy to get stuck on this part of affiliate marketing. If you want to get going right after you get your site up, then you need to create a link-building strategy in the early stages of building the site.

Some link-building methods you can include on your link building strategy for the fitness niche are:

Content Strategy

Content strategy is scheduling and organizing the content on your site, from research to publication. There’s a lot of information on fitness and wellness that you can publish on your site: proper diet, fitness routines, various workouts, etc. A good content strategy will help you better research and organize the articles you will publish on your site so that it is regularly updated.

Blog and Forum Commenting

There are plenty of fitness forums and blogs you can participate in. The good thing about this niche is that it is closely related to muscle building and weight loss, so you can go to sites in those niches too.

Keep in mind that you’re not only building links when you’re participating in blogs and forums. You’re also building your site’s online presence on these sites.

Link Baiting

There are plenty of authority sites in this niche. Instead of competing with these sites, use them as sources for your article. Once the article is complete, you can write to the owner of these sites and let them know you’ve link to their site from within your article. Most website owners will link back to your article as long as its good and useful to their audience.

You don’t have to stick with just article. You can create an infographic, or a video, and refer to the source site. The more shareable and useful the content, the more likely website owners will link back to it so take the time to create a high quality content for link baiting.

Fitness Affiliate Programs: A Good Fit or Not?

The fitness niche, just like the weight loss and muscle building niches, is a lucrative niche. And just like the weight loss niche, it’s something anyone can relate to and be interested in.

But just like any other evergreen niche, there’s plenty of competition. Be sure to do your research, pick out a sub-niche to focus on, and have a link building strategy. You would need all these to make your venture into this niche a profitable one.
